Lavassas Leads Hurricanes With Strong Performance at Crimson Classic 

The University of Miami cross-country team finished the Crimson Classic at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Friday morning. 

Junior Daphnee Lavassas registered one of the best performances of her collegiate career, placing fourth in a pool of 228 runners with a final time of 19:23.5 in the women’s 5846m race. 

Junior Austen Cannon was the highest performing Hurricane for the men’s team Friday morning in Alabama; the Pearland, Texas, native placed 28th out of 218 runners, clocking 24:39.6 in the men’s 8018m.

Cannon’s time of 24:39.6 is his best this season, only seven seconds shy of his personal best of 24:32.60, a time that sits at number two all-time in the program record books. 

Emma Maurel placed 32 against strong competition, ending with a time of 21:00.3. Cormac O’Brien also finished with 25:24.1, good for 81st out of 218 runners.
