Lavassas Leads Hurricanes at the Roy Griak Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn., – The University of Miami cross country team competed at the Roy Griak Invitational at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis Friday morning.

The Hurricanes competed against 18 programs scattered across the country including Utah, Boise State, Cincinnati, New Mexico, Colorado State, and more.

Daphnee Lavassas was the highest-performing Hurricane in the women’s 6K race, placing 13 out of a field of 193 runners, clocking a final time of 21:34.4.

Freshman Madeline Scheier earned a time of 23:06.1 while senior Natalie Varela followed behind her with 23:11.8.

Junior Austen Cannon finished with 25:49.5 in the men’s 8K, battling through tough competition.

Next up for the Hurricanes cross-country team will be the FSU Invitational, hosted by Florida State, on September 29.
