Canes Come Up Short Against No. 8 Clemson

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The University of Miami soccer team dropped its first ACC match of the year, falling to the eighth-ranked Clemson Tigers, 5-0, Thursday evening at Cobb Stadium.

Clemson (7-1-2, 1-1 ACC) scored three times in the first half and never looked back against the Hurricanes (2-4-3).

Freshman standout Jenna Tobia found the back of the net in the 10th minute before veteran forward Caroline Conti doubled the Tigers’ tally at the 19:31 mark.

In the closing moments of the first frame, sophomore forward Maria Manousos capped off the half with her second goal of the season.

Forwards Renee Lyles and Sami Meredith tacked on the finishing touches with a goal apiece in the 74th and 88th minutes, respectively.

Miami goalkeeper Melissa Dagenais registered five stops, becoming only the fifth Hurricane all-time to record 220 career saves.

The Canes close out their three-match homestand against Louisville Sunday. Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m.
