Canes Bounce Back With Sweep Over Arizona

MADISON, Wisc. – The University of Miami volleyball team (5-2) grabbed its third sweep of the season a with 3-0 shutout against Arizona on Saturday night.

The teams battled every point, tying it at 16-all for a thrilling first set. Graduate student Janice Leao returned to the court, after sitting out three games, with a block, followed by a kill to put the Canes in a 19-17 lead. With a dominant 12 kills, 23 digs and five blocks, Miami claimed set one 28-26 over Arizona.

Set two kept it close and Savannah Vach smacked it down for a kill to give UM a 10-8 lead. Miami went on a 11-0 scoring run with sophomore Milana Moisio behind the line and blocks and kills from all around. The Canes closed out set two with a 25-13 win, notching 14 kills for a .359 kill percentage.

Miami kept the momentum heading into the final set and went on another 6-0 scoring run with help from freshman Grace Lopez recording back-to-back kills and sophomore Naylani Feliciano earning 10 digs for the 25-17 win.

With 41 kills, 10.5 blocks, a .289 kill percentage, 39 assists and 66 digs, Miami claimed the 3-0 shutout over Arizona for its fifth win of the season.

Leao led the Canes with 8.0 blocks, while Feliciano took 23 digs and Vach tallied 30 assists.

The Canes will return home to host the 305 Challenge, facing Indiana first on Friday, Sept. 15 in the Knight Gym.
