VB Falls To No. 1 Wisconsin
MADISON, Wis. – The University of Miami volleyball team fell, 3-0, to No. 1 Wisconsin on Friday night.
The Hurricanes opened strong against the Badgers, trading points until the Badgers started to pull away. Wisconsin went on a 6-0 scoring run, making it 12-5. The momentum stayed the same and the Badgers claimed set one, 25-11.
Miami picked up speed coming into the second set. Leading Wisconsin 8-7 after an ace from redshirt senior Angela Grieve. The Canes remained powerful with kills all around and back-to-back smackdowns from freshman Grace Lopez for a 20-all score. Despite notching a .348 kill percentage, Wisconsin took set two, 25-23.
Set three started the same as the second. After a block from fifth-year setter Savannah Vach and Lopez’s ninth kill of the night, the score was tied at eight. The Badgers pulled away and took a 20-13 lead, eventually leading to a 25-15 set win for Wisconsin and 3-0 victory for the No. 1 ranked team.
The Canes will stay in Madison, Wis., for a neutral match against Arizona on Sept. 9.
