Miami Drops Non-Conference Finale to FIU, 1-0

MIAMI, Fla. — The University of Miami soccer team came up short in its non-conference finale, falling to the FIU Panthers, 1-0, Thursday evening.

The Hurricanes (1-3-3) silenced the Panthers’ prolific offense for the first 87 minutes, but a late penalty kick proved to be the difference at FIU Soccer Stadium.

Junior midfielder Nikole Solis stepped to the spot and buried her eighth goal of the season. Solis’ late heroics sealed the deal for FIU (5-1-1), as the Panthers extended their best start in program history.

In the defeat, redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Skylah Klein, who was making her first career start, tallied four saves.

Up next, the Hurricanes open ACC action, welcoming Syracuse to Cobb Stadium on Sept. 15. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m
