Noel Enters Top Five in ITA Singles Rankings
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Alexa Noel of the University of Miami women’s tennis team earned a season-best ITA ranking of fifth nationally, as announced Tuesday morning.
Noel has been in the top 15 the entire spring and in the top eight on four occasions, including in each of the past three releases. Her jump from seventh to fifth comes after a 2-0 weekend that included a 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 road win over then-No. 12 Carol Lee of No. 20 Georgia Tech in Miami’s regular season finale Sunday in Atlanta.
The Summit, N.J., native is 30-7 in 2022-23, including 20-5 versus ranked opponents. This spring alone, Noel is 20-3 overall, 17-3 at the No. 1 spot, 12-1 in ACC play and 14-2 against ranked players, owning three top-15 victories.
Miami once again also features two additional ranked singles players along with a trio of ranked pairs. Junior Isabella Pfennig places No. 83 in the country, while fifth-year senior Daevenia Achong comes in at No. 105.
In doubles, the Hurricanes have two top-30 duos for the second time in 2023. Achong and Noel hold the No. 27 position, while Noel and Pfennig come in at No. 29. In addition, Achong teams with fourth-year junior Maya Tahan to form the No. 44 tandem in America.
As a team, the Hurricanes again place No. 13 overall, marking their seventh straight week in the top 20 and sixth consecutive week in the top 15. This past weekend, Miami (14-6, 9-4 ACC) notched a 7-0 win Friday at then-No. 37 Clemson and fell, 4-3, Sunday afternoon against the Yellow Jackets.
Twelve ACC teams are ranked top-50 this week, including eight in the top 25 and five in the top 15. Miami is joined by top-ranked North Carolina, fifth-ranked NC State, sixth-ranked Duke, No. 10 Virginia, No. 20 Georgia Tech, No. 25 Florida State, No. 33 Wake Forest, No. 39 Syracuse, No. 42 Clemson and No. 46 Boston College.
