Miami Faces 4-2 Setback at No. 16 North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team dropped its final match of the regular season Sunday afternoon, falling 4-2 at No. 16 North Carolina.

Graduate student No. 52 Dan Martin recorded his second straight top-50 victory, taking down No. 45 Brian Cernoch.

The Tar Heels jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after securing the doubles point.

The second doubles duo of fifth-year senior Franco Aubone and Martin and the third doubles pair of sophomore Martin Katz and freshman Antonio Prat both fell, 4-6, on their respective courts.

No. 52 Martin tied the match at 1-all with a decisive 6-1, 6-4 victory at first singles.

Freshman Nacho Serra Sanchez gave Miami its first lead of the day after defeating North Carolina’s Chris Li, 6-4, 6-2, on court five.

North Carolina tied the match back up at 2-2 when No. 87 Katz fell to No. 43 Ryan Seggerman, 6-4, 3-6, 2-6, at second singles.

No. 131 Karl Poling put the Tar Heels back on top with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over graduate student Leo Bierbaum.

North Carolina closed out the match on court three as Prat fell to Will Jansen, 1-6, 7-6 (8), 3-6.

The Hurricanes head to Cary, N.C., this week to participate in the 2023 ACC Men’s Tennis Championship. The bracket will be announced later today.
