Miami Remains Undefeated at Home

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team got it done on Senior Day, defeating the Boston College Eagles, 7-0, Sunday at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center. The Hurricanes finished the regular season a perfect 11-0 at home.

In between doubles and singles action, Miami recognized four seniors – fifth-year senior Franco Aubone, graduate student Leo Bierbaum, fifth-year senior Juan Martin Jalif and graduate student Dan Martin.

The senior class has combined for 255 career singles victories and 211 career doubles wins.

Boston College won the first doubles match of the day, tallying a 6-2 victory at third doubles, but Miami’s Jalif and freshman Martin Vergara Del Puerto responded with a 6-3 win on court one to tie the doubles portion at one-all.

With the doubles point on the line, Aubone and Martin staved off the Eagles at second doubles, recording a 6-4 victory to clinch the doubles point for the Hurricanes.

Freshman Nacho Serra Sanchez tallied Miami’s first singles point of the day, cruising to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Jake Vassel at fourth singles.

In his final home match as a Hurricane, Jalif posted a 6-0, 6-4 victory on court five to extend Miami’s lead to 3-0, followed by a 6-2, 6-3 win by Vergara Del Puerto at sixth singles to clinch the match for the Hurricanes.

Sophomore No. 95 Martin Katz tallied his 11th singles victory of the spring with a 6-4, 6-4 win at second singles, while No. 51 Martin rallied from down 3-5 in set one to win in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2.

Graduate student Leo Bierbaum closed out the sweep for the Hurricanes on court three, defeating Mai Gao, 7-5, 6-2.

The Hurricanes hit the road for their final two matches of the regular season, taking on No. 16 Duke at 5 p.m. on Friday and No. 13 North Carolina at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
