Byrne Shines in Final Round of Moon Golf Invitational
MELBOURNE, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s golf team concluded play at the Moon Golf Invitational Tuesday afternoon, placing 17th in the tournament hosted by the University of Louisville.
Miami shot a three-round total of 909 (+45) at the par-72, 6,362-yard Suntree Classic Country Club Course.
Third-year sophomore Sara Byrne led the Hurricanes with a 211 (-5), 54-hole score and finished tied for 13th among all individuals. Byrne fired a third-round score of 67 (-5) to climb her way up the leaderboard.
The Hurricanes competed against No. 7 Florida State, No. 9 LSU, No. 17 Auburn, No. 19 Vanderbilt, No. 21 UCF, No. 25 Arkansas, No. 27 Northwestern, No. 33 Michigan, No. 34 Florida, No. 37 Clemson, No. 41 Michigan State, No. 42 Alabama, No. 45 North Carolina, Augusta, Louisville, and Virginia Tech, in the three-day tournament.
LSU placed first with a score of 834 (-30), followed by Northwestern 843 (-21), and Florida placing third 846 (-18).
Daniella Barrett and Byrne, both started the tournament off shooting under par. Barrett led the team in the first-round, shooting a 4-under-par score of 68. Byrne shot 1-under-par (71), in the first round.
Barrett placed T64 overall- with a final score of 221 (+5).
Freshman Katie Carman and Elisa Villamizar competed in their second collegiate tournament. Carman scored a three-round total of 239 (+23), followed by Villamizar with a score of 240 (+24).
Franziska Sliper scored a three-round total of 248 (+32).
The Hurricanes return to action Mar. 4-5, at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.
