Miami Places Second at the Hurricane Invitational
CORAL GABLES, FLA. – The University of Miami golf team welcomed 11 teams to the Biltmore Golf Course this week, as it hosted the Hurricane Invitational for the first time since 2019.
Miami placed second in its only home tournament of the season, shooting a three-round total of 852 (-12) at the par-72, 6,162-yard Biltmore Golf Course.
Third-year sophomore Nataliya Guseva finished tied for second among all individuals, while fourth-year junior Sara Byrne tied for sixth. Fifth-year senior Anna Backman and fourth-year junior Daniella Barrett each posted a top-30 finish, closing the final round tied for 22nd and tied for 29th, respectively.
Southern Methodist University won the Hurricane Invitational with a score of 848 (-16), followed closely by Miami and South Florida, who placed third after finishing the tournament at 11-under-par (853).
Guseva shot under-par each round, progressively lowering her score throughout the tournament. She shot a 71 in the first round, followed by a 70 in round two and a 69 in the final round to conclude the tournament with a score of 210 (-6).
Byrne began the tournament shooting par in the opening round, followed by two rounds under-par for a final score of 212 (-4).
Backman finished with an even par of 216 (E), while Barrett followed closely behind her, shooting two rounds under-par and ending with a score of 218 (+2).
Fourth-year junior Franziska Sliper shot her final round under-par, totaling 223 (+7) and tying for 47th place. Fourth-year junior Morgan Pankow shot a total of 229 (+13) to finish in 64th place as an individual.
The Hurricanes are off for the remainder of the 2022 calendar year and will be back in action for their spring slate beginning on Feb. 5 at the UCF Challenge in Orlando, Fla.
