Miami Suffers Setback at Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The University of Miami soccer team fell to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at Spry Stadium.

“We have to learn and move forward,” Miami head coach Sarah Barnes said. “I didn’t think our performance was up to our standard. Wake Forest is a good team and took advantage of our errors. Every team we play in the conference is going to throw a different challenge and we have to learn, grow, adapt and move forward.”

After upsetting No. 24 Virginia Tech Thursday evening, Miami (4-6-2, 1-5 ACC) couldn’t muster the same lethal attack against the Demon Deacons (9-3-2, 3-3 ACC).

Wake Forest found the back of the net in the 32nd and the 72nd minutes behind goals from junior forward Olivia Stowell and freshman midfielder Alex Wood, respectively.

Miami senior goalkeeper Melissa Dagenais, who entered the weekend leading the ACC in saves, posted four stops in the defeat.

Up next, the Hurricanes head back to the Tar Heel State to square off with NC State at Dail Soccer Field/Track Complex. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Saturday.
