Miami Sets 2022-23 Golf Schedule
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami head golf coach Janice Olivencia announced the Hurricanes’ 2022-23 schedule Friday morning.
“I am beyond excited for the upcoming season and the strength of the schedule we were able to put together,” Olivencia said. “We have the opportunity to compete against the very best in the nation and that will prepare us for ACC and NCAA Championships. We have a very enthusiastic team that is committed to the journey ahead of us.”
For the second straight season, Miami will open the year at the Cougar Classic (Sept. 12-13) in Charleston, S.C. Last spring, the Hurricanes placed ninth in the event, shooting eight-over-par as a team.
The Hurricanes close out September with a trip to College Station, Texas, to compete in the “Mo” Memorial (Sept. 20-21). Following a three-week break, Miami is back in action at the Ivy Intercollegiate in Springfield, N.J. (Oct. 10-11).
The following weekend, Miami heads out west to participate in the Stanford Intercollegiate in Stanford, Calif., (Oct. 21-23), before returning to Coral Gables to host the Hurricane Invitational (Oct. 31-Nov. 1) to close out the fall slate.
Miami last hosted the Hurricane Invitational in March 2020, where it placed eighth as a team. Then-senior Renate Grimstad finished 11th (+4) overall for Miami, while current fifth-year senior Anna Backman tied for 29th (+10) among all golfers.
“Hosting at our home course, the Biltmore, is very unique,” Olivencia said. “We certainly embrace how special it is to represent the green and orange knowing that we only get to compete here once a year. With this being my first year at Miami, it will be extra meaningful, and I look forward to enjoying the “U” atmosphere.”
The Hurricanes start the spring schedule with three straight tournaments in the state of Florida. Miami first travels to Orlando, Fla., to compete in the UCF Challenge (Feb. 5-7), before visiting Melbourne, Fla., for the Moon Golf Invitational (Feb. 19-21).
The final tournament in the state will take place in Gainesville, Fla., where the Hurricanes will participate in the Gator Invitational (March 4-5). Coach Olivencia is no stranger to Mark Bostick Golf Course, as she spent 10 seasons on the Florida women’s golf staff.
Miami heads back to Charleston, S.C., in March to compete in the Briar’s Creek tournament (March 13-14). The Hurricanes recorded a second-place finish at Briar’s Creek in 2020-21 (+10), trailing only host, College of Charleston (+9).
The Hurricanes’ final regular season tournament comes in Ardmore, Okla., where Miami will compete at The Bruzzy (April 1-2).
The ACC Championship is slated for April 13-16 at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.
NCAA Regional play falls on May 8-10, with the six hosts sites being Athens, Ga., Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Pullman, Wash., Raleigh, N.C., San Antonio, Texas and Westfield, Ind. The NCAA Championship will be held May 19-24 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
