Canes Close Play at ACC Championships
PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – The University of Miami golf team concluded play at the ACC Championships on Friday at the par-72, 6,212 yard Reserve Golf Club of Pawleys Island.
Stroke play wrapped up with the final round on Friday to determine individual finishes at the tournament.
Leading the way for the Hurricanes was Sara Byrne. The second-year freshman posted a two-over (176) on the first day of action on Thursday, including her co-team-leading 11th round par or better in the second round with a 71 (-1). She capped her weekend with a 54-hole score of 223 (+7) to finish tied for 22nd.
Nataliya Guseva and Daniella Barrett ended the weekend within a stroke of each other. Guseva posted a score of 225 (+9) for a 28th-place finish, while Barrett notched a 30th place finish at 10-over par.
“It’s been a tough spring, not what we expected,” head coach Patti Rizzo said. “We still have Regionals to look forward to and it’s not over until it’s over.”
Kristyna Frydlova tallied a 231 (+14) to tie 39th and Anna Backman rounded out the Miami lineup in 44th at 15-over par.
The Canes finished ninth with a team score of 897 (+33).
Action at the ACC Tournament continues Saturday and Sunday with match play to determine the team champion. The top-four teams – Wake Forest (864; E), Florida State (869; +5), Duke (873; +9) and Virginia (880; +16) – advanced to the match play semifinals.
Miami will be off until May 9 to 11 when it returns to action for the NCAA Women’s Golf Regionals.
