Canes Earn All-ACC Academic Team Honors
CORAL GABLES, Fla. â The University of Miami track and field team had 10 student-athletes named to the 2022 All-ACC Indoor Track and Field Academic Teams, as announced Wednesday morning by the conference.
In order to qualify for the all-academic team, the ACC requires a minimum 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during oneâs academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in the selection process.
The graduate students led the way for the Hurricanes on this yearâs teams.
Kevin Arreaga capped his UM career with a 3.60 grade point average while earning his masterâs degree in International Administration. Throughout his tenure at Miami, Arreaga was named to the ADâs Honor Roll (3.2+) five times and the Book Busters Club (3.0+) seven times to go along with a selection to the Provost’s Honor Roll (3.75+).
Fellow International Administration graduate student Decio Andrade boasts a 3.67 career GPA. He has been named to the ADâs Honor Roll and Book Busters Club in his short time as a Hurricane.
At an impressive career grade point average mark of 3.86, Isaiah Holmes is working towards his masterâs degree in Business Administration. The Roseville, Calif., native is a 2022 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar, along with earning the Graduate Award of Academic Merit (3.8+) twice.
On the womenâs side, the duo of Alfreda Steele and Debbie Ajagbe are each working towards their masterâs degrees as members of the ODK National Honor Society. Steele, who has earned the Graduate Award of Academic Merit twice, has a 3.79 GPA in International Administration. An ACC Postgraduate Scholarship recipient, Ajagbe is studying Mechanical Engineering while holding a 3.72 career GPA. She was tabbed the 2020 Womenâs Track and Field Scholar Athlete of the Year following the indoor season.
Lauryn Harris has an astounding 4.00 grade point average while earning her degree in Political Science. She is a two-time Presidentâs List (4.0) and Provost’s Honor Roll selection.
A three-time honoree to the ADâs Honor Roll and Book Busterâs Club, Sierra Oliveira is registering a career 3.54 GPA in exercise physiology. Moriah Oliveira caps the academic honors with her grade point average of 3.14 in journalism during her time at The U. She has been placed on the ADâs Honor Roll and Book Busterâs Club two times.
Rounding out the Hurricanes’ academic honors is Russell Robinson with a 3.05 career GPA in Sport Administration and Ayman Zahafi who is averaging a 3.00 in Economics in his career. Robinson has earned a spot on the Provost’s Honor Roll and Deanâs List (3.5+), while Zahafi has seen his name in the Book Busters Club.
Miami combined to win 12 medals behind this group, including three golds.
During the indoor season, these 10 Canes set four school records and an additional four top-five program marks.
The Canes return to action on Apr. 23 in Baton Rouge, La., at the LSU Alumni Gold.
