Track and Field Announces Competitive 2022 Schedule
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Highlighted by several trips across the country for some of the nation’s most competitive meets, the Miami Hurricanes’ 2022 schedule was announced by director of track & field and cross country Amy Deem on Tuesday.
“I am really looking forward to both our indoor and outdoor seasons with our men’s and women’s teams,” said director of track and field and cross country Amy Deem. “In planning the 2022 campaign, we wanted to put a schedule together for our talented group of student-athletes that challenged them with the best teams in the country. I feel that with this schedule, we will be able to put our team in a position to compete at the highest level at all competitions.”
UM opens its 2022 indoor season in Birmingham, Ala., on Jan. 14 at the UAB Blazer Invitational – representing the same track where the NCAA Indoor Championships will be held later in spring. Following its trip to Alabama, the Canes will travel to Columbia, S.C., for a two-day meet at South Carolina on Jan. 21 and 22.
The Hurricanes will then split into two squads for two highly competitive meets, Feb. 4-5, with the short sprinters and jumpers heading west for the New Mexico Collegiate Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., and the long sprints, distance, and throws groups traveling to the challenging Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Ind.
The Hurricanes regular season finale will be at the nationally recognized Tiger Paw Invitational at Clemson, Feb. 11-12, which normally attracts several top-10 programs and produces some of the best results in the nation.
Miami will wrap up its indoor campaign at the ACC Championships, Feb. 24-26, in Blacksburg, Va. This year’s NCAA Indoor Championships will be held in Birmingham from Mar. 11-12.
The Hurricanes will open the outdoor season hosting back-to-back home meets: the Hurricane Invitational (Mar. 18-19) and Hurricane Collegiate Invitational (Mar. 26). Following its homestand to open the season, the Hurricanes will remain in-state to travel to Gainesville for the historic Florida Relays, Apr. 1-2. Miami then returns home to host its third event of the season, the Hurricane Alumni Invitational, on April 8 and 9.
UM rounds out its 2022 regular season campaign on the road with the LSU Alumni Gold on April 23 in Baton Rouge, La., and the UNF Invite in Jacksonville on April 29-30.
The Hurricanes’ outdoor postseason will begin at the ACC Championships in Durham, N.C. from May 12-14. Following the conference championship weekend, the Hurricanes will travel to Bloomington, Ind. From May 25-28, for the NCAA East Preliminaries. Miami’s 2022 season concludes at the NCAA Championships (June 9-12) in Eugene, Ore., at historic Hayward Field.
