Nataliya Guseva Secures Silver in Texas
ARGYLE, Texas – Leading the way for the University of Miami golf team, freshman Nataliya Guseva finished tied for second at The Bruzzy Challenge.
Entering the final round tied for sixth at two-under-par, the Moscow native caught fire early Monday morning carding five birdies through the opening 13 holes. Overall, she scored one-under, 71 in the third round to rise four positions and split runner-up status at three-under, 213.
The second-place finish marked her highest as a collegian, previously placing third two weeks ago at the Briar’s Creek Invitational.
As a team, the Hurricanes placed 12th at the par-72, 6,421-yard Lantana Golf Club at 22-over, 886.
“I am not really one for excuses. It just wasn’t a good week for us. I just hope we are saving it up for ACCs,” Miami head coach Patti Rizzo said. “Nataliya played well, but she was also disappointed. She really had it going with just a few holes to play and gave it back. I am proud of all my girls and still love them even if it’s a good or bad tournament.”
Freshman Sara Byrne finished tied for 40th at seven-over, 223, while fourth-year junior Kristyna Frydlova tallied nine-over, 225 to tie for 47th.
Rounding out the Hurricanes lineup, third-year sophomore Anna Backman ranked tied for 64th at 13-over, 229, while second-year freshman Franziska Sliper placed 77th at 236.
With the 2021 regular season completed, the Hurricanes will next return to action April 15 in Greensboro, N.C., for the ACC Championship.
