Canes Down the Hokies 3-1 in Final Road Match

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Miami volleyball defeated Virginia Tech 3-1 in its final road match of the 2021 season.

With just eight student-athletes available, Miami defeated the Hokies to improve to 10-6 on the season behind double-digit kills from Angela Grieve (19), Elizaveta Lukianova (18) and Janet Kalaniuvalu (15).

The Canes outhit Virginia Tech .322 to .209, registering 66 kills to 49. Junior Savannah Vach registered 30 assists behind a career-high 23 from Amanda Falck.

Miami took the 1-0 lead behind seven kills from Lukianova, while Vach added three of her own. Hitting .421 early on, Miami’s defensive efforts also kept Virginia Tech to a low .114 on offense. Miami took the set, 25-15.

Grieve’s six kills led both teams in the second set, as the sophomore hit .667 to propel the Canes to the advantageous 2-0 lead. Miami’s 25-18 set win was sparked by a strong defensive outing by junior libero Priscilla Hernandez’s 11 digs.

Virginia Tech took its lone set of the match, 25-20, hitting its best .424 off 15 kills.

Miami took the final edging Virginia Tech in kills, 14-13, while producing four team blocks and 20 digs. Miami’s win came off Michalina Rola’s third and final kill of the match, taking the set, 25-19.

The Canes return to action on April 1 to host Louisville.
