Brooks Selected to All-ACC Academic Team
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Nysier Brooks of the University of Miami men’s basketball team earned 2020-21 All-ACC Academic Team distinction, as announced Tuesday morning by the league office.
The redshirt senior center claimed the honor for his success both on the hardwood and in the classroom during the 2020-21 school year.
Brooks is averaging 6.8 points and a team-high 5.8 rebounds per game this season. The Philadelphia native, who has played in all 24 games and started 22 of them, also leads the Hurricanes in both field-goal percentage (50.4) and blocked shots (23).
Academically, Brooks sports a 3.16 cumulative GPA as a criminology major with a minor in sociology. A Senior CLASS Award candidate, Brooks has earned Book Buster (3.0+ GPA) in two of his three semesters at Miami and garnered AD’s Honor Roll (3.2+ GPA) status in the spring of 2020.
Miami has now placed at least one player on the All-ACC Academic Team in 14 of its 16 years in the league, including each of the past nine. The latter mark dates back to head coach Jim Larrañaga’s second season at the helm.
Brooks and the Hurricanes open ACC Tournament play Tuesday at 2 p.m. with a matchup against Pittsburgh at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, N.C.
