Miami Enters Final Day in Fifth
ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Miami golf team returned to the Eagle Creek Golf Club Monday morning for the second round of competition at the UCF Challenge.
Grouped with the former leaders with a 9:40 a.m. tee time, the Hurricanes battled heavy wind conditions all afternoon and enter the final round of competition tied for fifth at one-under, 575.
“It was a very windy and chilly day,” Miami head coach Patti Rizzo said. “The teams that teed off last had the worst of the 30 mph winds and as a team we struggled. Hopefully, we bring it back tomorrow.”
Kristyna Frydlova entered the morning leading the team with a four-under-par performance on Sunday and opened the second day strong with a pair of birdies through the first seven holes. Overall, the Prague native capped the front-nine at one-over-par and enters the final day tied for 12th at one-under, 143.
Franziska Sliper countered three early bogeys with a trio of birdies on the ninth, 10th and 13th holes, to return to even-par on the day. The sophomore enters the final round tied for 17th with a score of 144 through 36.
Joining Sliper with an even-par score after two rounds of competition are Sara Byrne and Renate Grimstad, each tallying a birdie on Monday.
Rounding out the Hurricanes lineup, Nataliya Guseva enters the final round of competition tied for 53rd at five-over, 149.
The third round of the UCF Challenge will tee off at 8 a.m. as the Hurricanes are set to be paired with student-athletes from Arkansas and Kent State. Guseva will get the morning started at 8:50 a.m., followed by Byrne (9 a.m.), Sliper (9:10 a.m.), Grimstad (9:20 a.m.) and Frydlova (9:30 a.m.).
