Miami Defeats FAU For Third Straight Win
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Miami women’s basketball team remained undefeated on Thursday, posting a 73-61 victory over the Florida Atlantic Owls at the Watsco Center.
Senior Kelsey Marshall put on a show from beyond the arc, knocking down a season-high five 3-pointers. The guard led the Canes with 21 points in the contest and set a new career-high in steals with five.
As a team, the Canes totaled 28 made free throws, the most by a Miami team since Jan. 27, 2019 when it recorded 34 against Boston College. On the boards, the Canes outrebounded the Owls, 49-32, and were paced by sophomore Moulayna Johnson Sidi Baba at nine, marking the third straight game that a different Hurricane has led the team in rebounds.
The Canes and the Owls traded baskets through much of the first half, but it was Miami’s 23-of-33 effort from the charity stripe that put the home team ahead heading into the locker room. Marshall paced all Miami players with 10 points in the first half, including a pair of 3-pointers.
FAU battled its way back into the contest and took a brief lead in the third, but Miami finished the quarter 5-of-6 from the field, highlighted by a clutch 3-pointer by Marshall as time expired in the frame.
Miami carried its momentum into the fourth quarter, outscoring the Owls 14-9 to close out the game. Sophomore forward Brianna Jackson recorded six of her 12 points in the final 10 minutes, snagging her second double-digit game of the season.
