W. Tennis Rolls to 4-0 Shutout at Tennessee State

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team picked up a 4-0 victory Saturday night at Tennessee State in its second match of the day.
After a 4-1 setback against No. 13 Vanderbilt, the Hurricanes turned in a dominant effort against the Tigers at the Whitworth Racquet Club. Miami (2-2) lost a total of four games in the three completed singles matches.
Senior Yuna Ito and freshman Florencia Urrutia gave Miami the opening tally in doubles by defeating Mackenzie Beckham and Ashia Jones, 6-1.
The freshman duo of Selma Cadar and Nada Dimovska then sealed the doubles point for the Hurricanes with a 6-2 victory over Aarushi Kakkar and Claudia Solé. The third doubles match was not played, as just two courts were available.
Freshman Diana Khodan tallied the first dual match win of her career to double Miami’s lead, as she downed Ashia Jones, 6-1, 6-0. Ito followed suit shortly thereafter with her first dual match singles win of the year, a 6-0, 6-1 decision against Beckham.
Urrutia sealed the triumph for the Hurricanes by notching her first dual match singles victory, an unblemished 6-0, 6-0 result versus Solé.
When play stopped, No. 104 Cadar held a 6-3, 1-1 lead on Kakkar. Tahan and Dimovska had yet to begin play, as only four courts were available for the singles portion of the evening.
Miami now has 148 shutout victories in Yaroshuk-Tews’ 19 seasons at the helm, including 91 since the start of the 2009 campaign alone.
Up next for the Hurricanes is a trip to Atlanta, where they square off with No. 22 Georgia Tech Feb. 14 at 3 p.m.
