Canes Ranked No. 18 in AP Preseason Top 25

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – For the second straight year, the University of Miami women’s basketball team has earned a spot in the Associated Press Top 25 to open the season. The Hurricanes checked in at No. 18 in the preseason poll, as announced by the AP on Wednesday.

Miami is one of six Atlantic Coast Conference teams to make an appearance in the poll, with five of the six teams earning a top-20 spot. Louisville (No. 9), Florida State (No. 12), Florida State (No. 14), Notre Dame (No. 16) and Syracuse (No. 21) all join the Canes among the best in the nation according to the AP.

The Hurricanes are scheduled to face eight top-25 opponents, including non-conference foes No. 7 Oregon State, No. 18 DePaul and No. 24 Indiana.

This marks this sixth time in program history that the Canes have opened the season in the AP Top 25. In four of the prior five seasons, Miami finished the year in the AP Top 25, as well.

The Canes are coming off a dominant victory over Nova Southeastern on Tuesday, defeating the Sharks 90-46 at the Watsco Center. Four different Hurricanes scored in double digits, led by double-double outings by redshirt senior forward Beatrice Mompremier (16 points, 11 rebounds) and freshman forward Brianna Jackson (11 points, 11 rebounds).

The Hurricanes officially open the 2019-20 regular season on Nov. 10 when they host Jackson State for a 3 p.m. matchup at the Watsco Center.
