CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Set to return to the Neil Schiff Tennis Center for the first time in 19 days, the University of Miami men’s tennis team welcomes No. 43 Virginia Tech to its home court Friday at 2 p.m.

As is the case with all home matches, entry to Friday’s contest is free to all fans. The first 50 students will receive UM mule mugs at the marketing table, which will also have team posters.

In a series that dates back to 1997, Virginia Tech holds a 12-8 advantage over Miami. The Hokies enter the contest riding a seven-match winning streak against the Hurricanes, with the Canes last defeating Virginia Tech on March 27, 2011 a 6-1 triumph on their home court.

The Hurricanes head into this season’s affair on an 11-match home winning streak, their longest in 18 years since Miami had a 20-match winning streak from Feb. 1, 2000 through Feb. 24, 2001. In addition, the Hurricanes’ 10-0 mark to open the 2019 campaign is the program’s best home start since the 2000 season, when the Canes closed out the year a perfect 15-0.

Miami is led by a pair of sophomores featured on the national singles list, with Adria Soriano Barrera coming in at No. 36 and Bojan Jankulovski ranked No. 91.

Under the direction of 21st-year head coach Jim Thompson, Virginia Tech (15-5, 5-3 ACC) enters the contest riding a seven-match winning streak, including a 5-2 home victory over then-No. 16 Notre Dame on Sunday.

The Hokies are represented by a pair of seniors in the Oracle/ITA singles rankings, with Mitch Harper listed at No. 50 and Jason Kros at No. 66. In doubles, Harper pairs up with Carlo Donato to form the nation’s 64th-ranked tandem, while Henrik Korsgaard and Alexandre Ribeiro sit at No. 65.

Following Friday’s match, Miami will welcome fifth-ranked Virginia to the Neil Schiff Tennis Center Sunday at noon for its regular season home finale.
