CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Estela Perez-Somarriba of the University of Miami women’s tennis team comes in second in the nation in the Oracle/ITA singles rankings, as announced Tuesday afternoon.

The junior has been ranked in the top five on seven occasions in her career, including the top three five times, but this is her first top-two ranking.

Perez-Somarriba is the first Hurricane in the top two since Audra Cohen finished the 2007 season ranked first overall. The Madrid native has won 11 consecutive matches and is 10-0 on the spring in dual match competition.

Along with her singles ranking, Perez-Somarriba also places No. 35 on the doubles list with freshman Daevenia Achong. That is the first of three ranked doubles pairs for the Hurricanes, the first time since April 17, 2018 they have at least that many duos featured.

Achong, who is ranked for the first time as a collegian, also comes in at No. 44 in doubles with senior Daniella Roldan. Additionally, Roldan holds the No. 60 spot with sophomore Ulyana Shirokova.

The Hurricanes, who place No. 26 in the updated team rankings, are one of just 10 programs with at least three ranked doubles pairs.

Miami is one of 10 ACC teams in the rankings, along with top-ranked North Carolina, third-ranked Duke, No. 11 NC State, No. 17 Florida State, No. 19 Wake Forest, No. 25 Virginia, No. 29 Syracuse, No. 32 Georgia Tech and No. 43 Boston College.

The Hurricanes play March 15 with a doubleheader at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center, as they host Notre Dame and Boston University at 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., respectively.
