CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team opened the 2019 dual season in dominant fashion, posting a 7-0 victory over Stetson Friday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

The Canes did not drop a set in their season opener, as the Hurricanes improve to 1-0 on the young season and 4-0 all-time against the Hatters.

The Hurricanes jumped out to the early lead through doubles action and never looked back. Playing on court 3, freshman Francisco Bastias and sophomore Bojan Jankulovski swept Coilin MacNamara and Louis Gorregues, 6-0.

Moments later, the Hurricanes’ freshmen tandem of Franco Aubone and Kaya Gore topped Linus Bergevi and Clement Hamel, 6-1.

Competing on court 1, redshirt junior Dane Dunlap and sophomore Adria Soriano Barrera held a 5-2 advantage before the doubles point was clinched.

In singles, No. 35 Jankulovski quickly gave Miami a 2-0 advantage with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Gorregues.

Playing at the No. 1 position, No. 21 Soriano Barrera placed the Hurricanes a point away from clinching with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Bergevi.

Aubone clinched the first dual match singles win of his career on court No. 5, topping MacNamara, 6-1, 6-1.

Moments after Aubone picked up the fourth point for the Canes, Dunlap added to the commanding lead with a 6-1, 6-4 victory against Hamel.

The Hurricanes would go on to capture the final two courts in straight-set fashion, with sophomore Tatsuki Shimamoto besting Christian Mills, 6-3, 6-2, while No. 97 Bastias topped Tim Gennes, 6-4, 6-3.
