Grimstad Ranks Second Entering Final Round

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Junior Renate Grimstad highlighted the opening two rounds of competition for the University of Miami golf team on Sunday, as she fired a seven-under-par, 137.

The Hurricanes tallied a team score of 584 and currently sit in ninth place at the Jim West Challenge, hosted by Texas State University at the par 72, 6,185-yard Kissing Tree Golf Club. Action will resume at 9:30 a.m. ET on Monday with the final round of play. Miami will be paired with Houston and Memphis for the final 18 holes of competition. Live results will be available through BirdieFire.

“Renni had a great second round. She shot 29 on her back nine for a total score of 65, which tied a course record and places her in second,” Miami head coach Patti Rizzo said. “However, the team as a whole didn’t do so well. We miss [senior] Dewi [Weber], and [junior Macarena Aguilera] slightly injured her wrist this afternoon. Hopefully, we will have a great day tomorrow.”

Opening the afternoon on the sixth hole, Grimstad carded a birdie on the par-four, 390-yard course. Eight holes later, the junior found herself at two-over par. Rebounding with three birdies to close out the round, Grimstad entered the second set of 18 leading the Canes with an even par opening round.

The Bergen, Norway, native caught fire in the second half of Sunday’s action with five birdies, an eagle and three pars.

Overall, the junior tied a course record with Florida State’s Frida Kinhult, as both shot seven-under-par during the second round of competition. Grimstad will enter the final round of competition trailing the Seminole by one-stroke for the individual lead.

Sophomore Kristyna Frydlova was the next Miami finisher as she tied for 24th. Sitting at four-over through 28 holes on Sunday, the Prague, Czech Republic, native rebounded with three birdies on holes 14, 17 and 18 to finish the afternoon at one-over, 145.

Rounding out the Hurricanes’ lineup were graduate student Claudia De Antonio (tied for 37th, 148), Aguilera (67th, 154), sophomore Serena Hou (76th, 167)
