WBB Tabbed Fifth by ACC Coaches, Mompremier on Newcomer Watch List

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s basketball team was well represented in the ACC’s Tuesday announcement of the league’s preseason poll and all-conference honorees.

The Hurricanes, coming off a 21-11 (10-6 ACC) season and fourth straight NCAA Tournament berth, placed fifth in the ACC Coaches’ predicted order of finish. They notched 160 points to finish just five back of NC State, with Syracuse third, Louisville second and Notre Dame first.

Miami also came in sixth in the Blue Ribbon Panel’s preseason poll, registering 577 points. The lone change in the top six from the ACC Coaches’ vote was Duke sliding one spot ahead of the Hurricanes.

Notre Dame garnered all 15 first-place votes from the ACC Coaches and earned 59 of 62 in the Blue Ribbon Panel balloting, taking the top spot on both lists.

In addition, redshirt junior forward Beatrice Mompremier received all-conference recognition from both parties. The 6-foot, 4-inch Miami native, who is now eligible after sitting out last season following her transfer from Baylor, made the Newcomer Watch List, as selected by the coaches and the media.

Mompremier, Miami’s first ACC Newcomer Watch List honoree, was the lone non-freshman to make the ACC Coaches’ cut. She was selected alongside Georgia Tech’s Elizabeth Balogun and Elizabeth Dixon, Syracuse’s Emily Engstler and Notre Dame’s Jordan Nixon.

In the Blue Ribbon Panel voting, Florida State redshirt junior Kiah Gillespie replaced Dixon on the five-player list.

Mompremier and the Hurricanes open the 2018-19 season with an exhibition game against Nova Southeastern Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. at the Watsco Center.
