Golf Wraps Up Day One of Illini Invitational

Round 2 Results | Round 1 Results | Round 3 Pairings

MEDINAH, Ill. – The University of Miami golf team is in fourth after the first two rounds of play at the Illini Women’s Invitational at Medinah hosted by the University of Illinois. The Hurricanes shot 10-under-par Monday at the par 72, 6,159-yard Medinah Country Club golf course.

“The team hung in there well today,” head coach Patti Rizzo said. “We will need a great final round, similar to the final day of the Schooner Fall Classic, but I have no doubt they can do it. I am excited for tomorrow!”

Through the first round of action, junior Macarena Aguilera and graduate student Claudia De Antonio led the way for the Canes.

Aguilera tied for second through the first 18 holes with six birdies, while scoring 34 on the back-nine to finish the round two-under-par.

Antonio also finished the morning session with a two-under, 70, picking up a quartet of birdies in the round.

Sophomore Kristyna Frydlova remained consistent all-day scoring one-under, 71, in both rounds, to finish the afternoon tied-for-15th at two-under-par.

After carding an even par opening round, Dewi Weber stole the show in the second by sinking a quintet of birdies, while not registering single bogey, to rocket up the leaderboard with an overall score of five-under, 139, on the afternoon. The senior sits in a tie-for-seventh, individually, heading into Tuesday.

After hitting 3-over-par in the opening round, junior Renate Grimstad rebounded with three birdies on the front-nine, to finish the second round scoring 1-under, 71.

Overall, Weber enters the final day of play three-behind Michaela Finn of Kent State for the overall lead. Frydlova (-2) and Aguilera (E) sit in a tie-for-15th-and-21st, respectively, while Grimstad (+2) and and Antonio (+3) round out the group in a tie-for-40th-and-47th, respectively.

The team finished five-under, 283, in both rounds today as they sit one-behind tournament-host Illinois, three behind Kent State and nine-behind Purdue.

The Hurricanes return to the golf course Tuesday, with a shotgun start time of 10 a.m. ET. Live scoring for the tournament is available HERE.
