NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Miami women’s golf team continued to move up the leaderboard at the 2018 Schooner Fall Classic, hitting a combined 26-under over the final two days of competition.

Overall, the Hurricanes finished fourth, with a three-round score of 19-under, 833 at the par 71, 6,063-yard Belmar Golf Club.

“The talent is there, it’s just a matter of putting it all together at the right time,” head coach Patti Rizzo said. “We obviously needed a warm up, but luckily they found themselves pretty fast. I’m glad we leave again next weekend while they are hot. Very proud of them all!”

Sophomore Kristyna Frydlova concluded final round competition with a five-under-par, 66, and closed the tournament with a total of 204, just eight strokes behind individual medalist Jiwon Jeon from Alabama.

The Prague, Czech Republic, native, placed fourth overall, collecting her first collegiate top-10 finish. She also registered 17 birdies over the three-day weekend, just two shy of Jeon’s tournament-high, 19.

“When Kris arrived in Oklahoma and felt the cooler temperatures, she said to me, ‘ah, just like home,’ Rizzo said. “She was a putting fiend this week! She obviously hit the ball well, but all the putts she needed to make, she did. [Senior] Dewi [Weber] found herself as well, so it was fun to watch!”

Weber led all scorers on Saturday, registering seven birdies and 11 even-par holes to finish the afternoon with a seven-under-par, 64.

Overall, Weber finished the tournament five-under, 208 placing 13th overall while tallying 13 birdies.

Adding to the Hurricanes’ 17-under afternoon, junior Macarena Aguilera finished Sunday three-under-par, concluding play one-under, at 212 and tied-for-28th.

Finishing alongside Aguilera in the standings, junior Renate Grimstad carded four birdies and finished two-under on Sunday to also wrap-up the weekend with a score of 212.

Graduate student Claudia De Antonio rounded out the Hurricanes’ lineup, as she finished the tournament eight-over-par, tied-for-56th.

Trailing only Alabama (62) in the category, Miami concluded action with 59 birdies in Oklahoma.

The Hurricanes will return to competition Monday, Oct. 8 at the Illini Invitational in Medinah, Ill.
