Soccer Set to Battle Lipscomb

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Miami soccer wraps up a two-match swing in the Volunteer State Sunday when it faces Lipscomb.
 
The Hurricanes (2-1-0) are set to face the Lady Bisons in their Music City Invitational finale at 1 p.m. ET at the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex in Nashville, Tenn.
 
The Canes are looking to rebound from Friday night’s loss to Vanderbilt, which saw two late Commodores’ goals seal the match.
 
In a very evenly matched contest, Vanderbilt held a slight advantage in shots, 9-8, while both teams earned a trio of corner kicks.
 
In goal, redshirt senior Phallon Tullis-Joyce collected four saves, and made several quality plays throughout the match.
 
Overall, the Canes enter Sunday’s tilt tied-for-fourth in the ACC with an average of 2.667 goals per contest. Individually, freshman forward Gudrun Haralz sits atop the ACC leaderboard with eight points through her first three collegiate matches. The native of Iceland, has tallied three goals and two assists, and has registered at least two points in every contest.
 
Lipscomb (2-0-1) enters the game unbeaten, most recently drawing with Ohio, 0-0, in the first set of matches of the Music City Invitational Friday night. Prior to Friday’s contest, the Lady Bison’s started off the season on a high note, taking down Battle of the Boulevard rival Belmont 6-1 on the road, before defeating Tennessee Tech 2-1 in the home opener.
 
Against Ohio, Lipscomb held the advantage in shots, 19-6, and corners, 10-3, but were unable to sneak the ball past the goalkeeper. Last week, junior Olivia Doak earned ASUN Player of the Week honors, following her stellar opening weekend performance. She notched two goals and one assists against Belmont and added another goal versus Tennessee Tech.
 
Last season, the Lady Bisons finished 9-7-3 (5-1-1 ASUN), but fell, 3-2, in double overtime of the ASUN Championship game against Florida Gulf Coast.

After meeting Lipscomb, the Hurricanes will return to Miami for a pair of home matches next weekend, beginning Thursday, August 30 at 7 p.m. against UT Rio Grand Valley at Cobb Stadium.
