AUSTIN, Texas – The Miami women’s golf team is tied for 10th place after the first round of play at the NCAA Austin Regional, held Monday at the par-72, 6,341-yard University of Texas Golf Club in Austin, Texas. Miami shot 10-over-par 298 as a team and is tied with UT San Antonio after the opening round.

Miami tees off at 9 a.m. ET/8 CT on Tuesday in the second round and is paired with UTSA and Oklahoma. The final round is slated for Wednesday morning. The top six teams and top three individuals not on those teams will advance to the NCAA Championships May 18-23 at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla.

Miami currently stands seven shots behind sixth-place BYU and Florida in the team standings.

“I think we were a little off today unfortunately,” Miami head coach Patti Rizzo said. “I’m not really happy with us being so many over par, but we still have a chance to get into the top six. They are going to have to play great the next couple of days though. We’ll see what happens. This team is capable. If they all play well, they could shoot 8-under in one day. Hopefully that will be tomorrow.”

Sophomore Renate Grimstad shot 2-under on the back nine to finish with an even-par 72 in the first round, including three birdies in the final nine holes. She is tied for 23rd place.

Junior Dewi Weber and freshman Kristyna Frydlova each recorded a 2-over 74 for 42nd place, while sophomore Macarena Aguilera carded a 6-over 78 for UM’s fourth score. She stands in a 77th-place tie. Freshman Roos Haarman fired an 83 in the opening round and is tied for 94th.

Making their sixth straight trip to an NCAA Regional under Rizzo, the Canes are attempting to advance to the NCAA Championships for the third straight year and the 26th time in program history.
