CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team opens the final portion of its road slate Friday afternoon when it takes on No. 42 Virginia in Charlottesville, Va.

THE SERIES
Even though the Hurricanes (11-7, 2-4 ACC) won the first three meetings of the series, which dates back to 1946, Virginia holds a 18-4 lead after taking the last 16 contests. The Canes’ last victory over the three-time reigning champion was in 2006, when then-No. 14 Miami took down then-No. 8 UVA, 4-3, at the Snyder Tennis Center, home of Friday’s match.
 
HIGHLIGHTING MIAMI’S 2018 SEASON
-Last Sunday, Miami won a second straight Atlantic Coast Conference match for the first time since April 9, 2017, upsetting then-No. 38 Louisville, 4-1, to extend its winning streak to three.

-This week, the Hurricanes are ranked No. 43 in the Oracle/ITA rankings, the team’s highest ranking since March 23, 2014.

-For the first time this season, Miami has two players ranked in singles. Freshman Adria Soriano debuts in the rankings at No. 68 – the most by a Miami player this season – while senior Christian Langmo checks in at No. 107. Langmo has been ranked in three of the last three editions of the rankings.

-Soriano and Langmo ascended 24 spots in the doubles rankings – most by a top-50 duo – to begin the week as the No. 26 nationally-ranked tandem. Langmo and Soriano has bested a top-55 opponent for each of their victories this spring.

-Miami freshmen have captured 32 singles wins this spring. Freshman Bojan Jankulovski, who was ranked No. 101 on Feb. 4, leads the team this spring, bolstering a team 14-4 singles record. He has a team-best 5-1 singles recond in ACC play.

-Miami’s 6-2 start to the season was the Hurricanes’ best start since 2013. 
 
-The Hurricanes, who are 10-1 at home, posted a seven-match win streak in Coral Gables for the first time since 2014, when the Hurricanes won nine straight between Feb. 22 and March 25.

LAST TIME OUT
Jankulovski, redshirt sophomore Dane Dunlap and senior Niclas Genovese all won their singles matches in a span of one minute to clinch the Canes’ victory against Louisville, 4-1, last Sunday. Jankulovski extended his singles win streak to four, while Genovese earned his fourth three-set comeback victory.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
The Cavaliers (11-7, 4-3 ACC) have the same overall record as Miami, but boast a better conference record, sitting in sixth place in the ACC standings. The back-to-back road losses to Duke and North Carolina last weekend snapped Virginia’s five-match win streak, which included three victories against teams Miami has seen this season. Virginia is 8-3 at home and are riding a five-match win streak in Charlottesville.

The Cavaliers have two top-35 singles players on their roster in No. 33 Aswin Lizen and Carl Soderlund. In addition, Lizen and Gianni Ross are ranked No. 20 in doubles play.
