HIGHLIGHTING MIAMI’S 2018 SEASON
-The Hurricanes are looking for their sixth straight win this season. Miami’s 6-2 start to the spring season is the Hurricanes’ best start since 2013.
-Miami’s only two defeats have come in the hands of top-25 teams, No. 22 Tulane and No. 14 Mississippi State, both on the road.
– The Hurricanes are hitting the road for the first time since Jan. 21. All five of Miami’s February matchups have been at their own Neil Schiff Tennis Center, all of them resulting in victories. The Hurricanes have now posted a five-match win streak at home for second straight season, a feat that they have achieved four times in the last seven campaigns.
– Miami freshmen have captured 15 singles wins this spring.
-Freshman Adria Soriano is enjoying quite the rookie campaign, accumulating a team-best singles singles record of 14-4, including a 6-1 in the spring. Soriano, currently No. 2 in the Hurricanes’ lineup, is riding a five-match win streak going into the weekend, all victories coming in straight sets.
LAST TIME OUT
Miami completed their five-match homestand the way they began it, sweeping the College of Charleston, 7-0, at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center in the first-ever meeting between the programs.
Freshmen Soriano, Tatsuki Shimamoto and Bojan Jankulovski all picked up singles victories while redshirt sophomore Dane Dunlap and senior Christian Langmo earned their seventh straight doubles win to improve 7-1. Miami’s No. 2 tandem of freshman Pablo Aycart and senior Nile Clark won third straight to secure the doubles point.
SCOUTING THIS WEEKEND’S OPPONENTS
Georgia Tech, which hosted the ITA Southeast Regional Championships Presented By Oracle in the fall, carries a 3-7 record into the weekend. The Yellow Jackets swept The Citadel twice in one day on Jan. 9 to begin the spring, but have lost last six, including both matches at the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Norman, Okla. Georgia Tech fell to Clemson, 5-2, in its ACC opener on Feb. 16. Last weekend, the Yellow Jackets dropped a road contest to Texas by the same scoreline.
The Tigers, who will host Miami at the AU Tennis Facility in Anderson, S.C., will go into the weekend with a 6-1 record. On Friday, Clemson will seek to extend their own five-match win streak against Hurricanes’ in-state rival No. 12 Florida State. Clemson has given up two points in all of its last four victories and has defeated Cornell and Georgia State by the minimal 4-3 in early February. The latter victory was the Tigers’ only result at the AU Tennis Facility this spring.
