No. 25 Miami Golf Opens Play at Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate

NEW ORLEANS – The No. 25-ranked University of Miami women’s golf team opened competition Sunday at the 2018 Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate. After one round of play, the Hurricanes sit in seventh place thanks to a score of 295.
 
The three-day event is being held at the par 72, 6,239-yard English Turn Golf and Country Club.
 
Sophomore Renate Grimstad and freshman Kristyna Frydlova led the way for Miami and are tied for 20th, as both carded scores of one-over-par, 73.
 
Grimstad and Frydlova both totaled three birdies and 12 pars during their respective opening rounds.
 
Frydlova was particularly impressive on the back nine, as she shot two-under-par. Her first-round total is also tied for her second-lowest round of the spring. 
 
Junior Dewi Weber finished just one stroke behind Grimstad and Frydlova, tallying a day-one score of 74. She is currently tied for 31st. Weber posted one birdie on hole No. 9 and recorded pars on 14 holes.
 
Rounding out the Hurricanes’ lineup was sophomore Macarena Aguilera (35th, 75) and freshman Roos Haarman (90th, 92).
 
UCF’s Kaeli Jones leads all individuals after she carded a day-one total of 66. Florida holds the team lead thanks to an opening round of 283. 
 
Round two competition begins tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. Live scoring for the tournament will be available at Golfstat.com.
