Hurricanes Sit in Fourth Place at Betsy Rawls Invite
AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Miami women’s golf team opened play at the 2017 Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational on Monday, and sits in fourth place heading into the final round of competition.
Miami posted back-to-back rounds of 293 and own a two-round total of 586.
Sophomore Renate Grimstad paced the Hurricanes during Day 1 play after carding a two-round total of 143. She currently sits just six strokes behind Clemson’s Alice Hewson, who owns the individual lead (137).
Grimstad posted an opening round score of 74, but bounced back in a big way in round two, as she posted a score of three-under-par, 69. The Bergen, Norway, native tallied four birdies on the day.
Grimstad will be in search of her fourth career top-10 finish tomorrow in the final round.
Junior Dewi Weber also turned in a strong performance for the Hurricanes, posting a Day 1 total of 145 after tallying rounds of 72 (round one) and 73 (round two). The Netherlands native enters round three tied for 14th.
Rounding out Miami’s starting lineup is sophomore Macarena Aguilera (tied for 32nd, 148), freshman Kristyna Frydlova (tied for 42nd, 150) and freshman Roos Haarman (tied for 42nd, 150).
Tournament host Texas holds the overall team lead with a score of 568 with one round to play.
The 44th annual event is being held at the par 72, 6,278-yard University of Texas Golf Club.
Final round action begins tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m. with a shotgun start. Live scoring for the tournament will be available at Golfstat.com.
