Two Canes to Compete at Riviera

CORAL GABLES, Fla. The top-ranked singles teammate duo in the country will participate in the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships this week.

Eighth-ranked Sinead Lohan and No. 11 Estela Perez-Somarriba of the University of Miami women’s tennis team are set to take on some of the nation’s best players at the prestigious tournament.

The 35th annual event is being held at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., and began Sept. 30 with pre-qualifying matches.

Both Hurricanes were among the players selected as main draw participants, earning berths into the final leg of the tournament without competing in qualifying or pre-qualifying.

In 2015, Lohan, a senior, became the first player in program history to reach the tournament finals. Last year, she won the back draw title, moving her all-time mark in the elite event to 8-2.

Perez-Somarriba, a sophomore, is competing in the tournament for the first time in her illustrious career. Last season, she became the first Hurricane to make the NCAA Singles Championship Final Four.

The full main draw field and matchups will be available after qualifying play concludes Tuesday. Additional information on the tournament can be found on the ITA event homepage HERE.
