Canes Tied for 7th at ANNIKA Intercollegiate

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. – University of Miami junior golfer Dewi Weber returned to her impressive form on Monday, as she carded a Day 2 score of six-under-par, 66 to move into contention, heading into the final round of play at the 2017 ANNIKA Intercollegiate.

Weber’s second-round tally of 66 was an incredible 10-stroke improvement from her opening round 76. The 10-stroke improvement catapulted the Netherlands native 21 spots up the leaderboard where she is now tied for eighth (76-66=142) and is just four strokes off the pace of tournament leader Natalie Srinivasan from Furman.

Weber’s second-day score was equally impressive considering she had to battle a weather delay, which lasted 84 minutes. When she did finish her round, Weber had tallied her lowest score of the fall and her 20th career round of 70-or-fewer .

Weber will enter the final day of competition in the hopes of posting her 13th career top 10 finish.

As a team, Miami also made tremendous strides, as it moved from 12th to a seventh-place tie. The Hurricanes posted a Day 2 score of 284, which was a 24-stroke improvement from its team total during Day 1. Miami currently owns a two-day total of 592.

Sophomore Renate Grimstad also continued her steady play, as she posted a second round score of even par 72. The Bergen, Norway native posted two birdies and just two bogeys on the day. She also carded 14 pars on the afternoon.

She is currently tied for eighth (70-72=142) and remains within striking distance of earning medalist honors for the first time in her collegiate career.

Freshman Kristyna Frydlova also posted a score of even par on Monday and is currently tied for 42nd (80-72=152). Frydlova’s second round 72 was an eight-stroke improvement from her Day 1 total of 80.

Rounding out the Hurricanes’ lineup were sophomore Macarena Aguilera (58th, 86-74=160) and freshman Roos Haarman (58th, 82-79=161).

Arkansas holds the team lead with a score of 570, heading into the final round.

This year’s event is being held at the par 72, 6,288-yard Olympic Hills Golf Club. The 12-school field includes nine teams in the top-13 of Golfweek’s preseason rankings.
