Weber Shines at #Schooner17

NORMAN, Okla. – University of Miami women’s golfer Dewi Weber wasted little time this season in adding to her already impressive collegiate résumé on Monday, as she tied for fourth at the 2017 Schooner Fall Classic.

The Hurricane junior concluded final round competition with a four-under-par, 67, and closed the tournament with total of 207, finishing just seven strokes behind individual medalist Kristen Gillman from Alabama.

Weber’s final round 67 marked the 19th time in her career she has posted a score of 70-or-fewer.

Weber’s top-five finish is the ninth of her Hurricane career. It also marks the second straight year the Netherlands native has opened the year with a top-five performance. In 2016, Weber captured medalist honors at the Mary Fossum Invitational.

Opening the day on hole No. 10, Weber started strong, recording birdies on three of the first nine holes she played. She then closed out the opening nine with two pars and a birdie.

Moving over to the front nine, Weber tallied her lone bogey of the afternoon as she took a five on hole No. 2. She quickly rebounded on hole No. 3 with a birdie and then proceeded to record six straight pars.

As a team, Miami finished 10th with a three-round total of 863. The Hurricanes posted a Day 3 total of 285 – their lowest single team round of the tournament.

The tournament field was the strongest it had ever been, highlighted by three top-10 teams (No. 4 Alabama, No. 6 Oklahoma and No. 10 Notre Dame). The remainder of the field included Baylor, Central Florida, Clemson, Florida, No. 20 Florida State, Miami, Mississippi State, Texas, No. 18 Texas A&M, Texas State, Tulsa and Washington.

Miami freshman Kristyna Frydlova bounced back in a big way during Day 3 competition, as she carded a final score of 69 – an eight-stroke improvement from her round on Sunday where she posted a 77.

In her collegiate debut, Frydlova finished the tournament tied for 26th and posted a three-day total of 214.

Rounding out the Hurricanes’ lineup was sophomore Macarena Aguilera (tied for 61st, 225), freshman Roos Haarman (tied for 63rd, 226) and sophomore Renate Grimstad (tied for 63rd, 226).

Alabama captured the team title with a three-round total of 831.

This year’s event was being held at the par 71, 6,046-yard Belmar Golf Club.

Miami returns to action on Oct. 1 at the Annika Intercollegiate in Eden Prairie, Minn.
