FOX POINT, Wis. Sinead Lohan of the University of Miami women’s tennis team opened her final collegiate campaign with a straight-set victory Friday afternoon at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic.

Following a first-round bye in the morning, the senior tallied a 6-1, 7-6 (8-6) triumph over Tess Herder of Drake at The Town Club.

“I got off to a quick start in the first set playing pretty aggressive tennis and dictating play,” Lohan said. “I started to get defensive in the second set and started missing balls I was making in the first set. My serve percentage was also very low. Overall, I’m just very excited to be back competing on the court for my senior year.”

Lohan fell behind, 4-5, in set two, but managed to work her way back to earn the straight-set win in her first action of the fall. The victory was the 102nd of Lohan’s career, moving her into a tie with Lise Gregory and Gabriela Mejia for sixth place all-time at Miami.

Up next for Lohan, the tournament’s top seed, is a quarterfinal match with fifth-seeded Stefana Andrei of UL-Monroe. The contest between Lohan, ranked eighth nationally, and Andrei, No. 60 in the country, is set for Saturday at 10 a.m. ET.
