EUGENE, Ore. – The University of Miami’s Shakima Wimbley will appear on “TrackTown Live,” a webcast previewing the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Wimbley and Miami director of track and field/cross country Amy Deem are scheduled to appear at 6:15 p.m., ET, on Tuesday, June 6, as hosts Jordan Kent and Paul Swangard preview the upcoming NCAA Championships. Tuesday’s broadcast, which runs from 5-6:30 p.m., ET, will focus on the women’s half of the NCAA meet. Click HERE to watch Tuesday’s broadcast.
A native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Wimbley kicked off the final week of her collegiate career by learning that she was named the 2017 South Region Women’s Track Athlete of the Year, as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Wimbley heads into the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Championships with the opportunity to put the ultimate punctuation on her outstanding collegiate career. The standout senior is scheduled to compete in the 400 meters, 4×100 meter relay and 4×400 meter relay. The 2017 NCAA indoor 400-meter champion, Wimbley enters this weekend’s meet as the NCAA leader in the 400 meters with a time of 50.40 seconds that is eighth-best all-time.
The 2017 ACC champion in the 200 meters, 400 meters, 4×100 meter relay and 4×400 meter relay, Wimbley rewrote the record books at Miami and in the ACC. The superstar closed her ACC career with eight 200-meter titles, seven 400-meter titles, three 4×100-meter titles and five 4×400-meter titles. She also has six school records, four ACC records and six ACC Championship records.
In addition to Wimbley in the women’s 400 meters, Miami has four other entries in this weekend’s NCAA Outdoor Championships: senior Aiyanna Stiverne in the women’s 400 meters, senior Ebony Morrison in the women’s 100-meter hurdles, and entries in the women;s 4x100m and 4x400m relays.
