@HurricanesGolf Sits in 10th Place at the NCAA Regional After One Round
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The No. 16-ranked University of Miami women’s golf team opened competition Monday at the 2017 NCAA Regional Championship and sit in 10th place. The University of New Mexico is serving as the tournament host for the three-day event, which is being held at The Championship Course (par 72, 6,637 yards).
Miami opened round one on a high note, as it remained in the top six for a majority of the day, but heavy winds on the back nine played a major roll, as the Hurricanes finished 15-over-par (303).
The Hurricanes sit just six shots out of sixth place. The top six teams advance to the national tournament in Sugar Grove, Ill. (May 19-24).
Freshman Renate Grimstad is tied for 14th and leads all Miami individuals heading into the second day. Grimstad shot one-over-par, 73. She carded three birdies on the day, including a pair on the front nine.
Senior Delfina Acosta is tied for 41st after she carded an opening round 76. Sophomore Dewi Weber and freshmen Filippa Moork and Macarena Aguilera rounded out the Hurricanes’ lineup, as they all posted scores of 77 and are tied for 49th.
Pepperdine leads all team scores after it tallied a round one score of 287. NC State’s Laura Kowohl leads all individuals after she shot three-under-par, 69.
Round two competition begins tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m. EST.
