Miami Falls to No. 3 Virginia
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team fell at home, 7-0, against third-ranked University of Virginia Friday at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
In doubles play, Virginia’s (24-1, 10-1 ACC) Collin Altamirano and J.C. Aragone bested junior Christian Langmo and sophomore Dane Dunlap, 6-3.
The Cavaliers then clinched the doubles point when No. 15 Luca Corinteli and Carl Soderlund topped seniors Max Andrews and Jesse Flores, 6-2.
The final remaining match was left unfinished with juniors Nile Clark and Piotr Lomacki trailing Thai-Son Kwiatkowski and Alexander Ritschard, 5-6.
Following the doubles point, the Cavaliers quickly capitalized in singles play when No. 47 Altamirano defeated Flores, 6-1, 6-2. Moments later, junior Kevin Bondar dropped his match against Aragone, 3-6, 1-6.
Virginia clinched the match on court one when Ritschard took down No. 59 Lomacki, 6-2, 6-4.
Play continued on courts two, three and six, as Langmo battled against No. 12 Kwiatkowski. The junior opened the match strong taking the opening set, 6-4.
Kwiatkowski came back to take the second set, 6-1, before earning the victory, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1.
On court three, No. 112 Soderlund took the match over Andrews, 6-3, 6-4, before No. 90 Henrik Wiersholm defeated Dunlap, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6).
Miami (8-12, 2-9) will wrap up the regular season when it faces Virginia Tech Sunday at noon, as the team celebrates senior day at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
