Lohan Named ACC Player of the Week

CORAL GABLES, Fla. Sinead Lohan of the University of Miami women’s tennis team was selected as the ACC Player of the Week, as announced Tuesday morning by the conference.

The junior is the first Hurricane to win the award in 2017 and it is the second time in her illustrious career she has received the honor.

“I’m happy that Sinead was recognized,” Miami head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews said. “She’s been having a little bit of adversity and it’s nice to see that she’s stepping up her play and she’s healthy. She’s finding her game late in the season, which is obviously the most important time.”

Lohan’s distinction comes after helping No. 45 Miami win its final two home matches of the year over the weekend. The Hurricanes topped No. 46 Clemson, 4-3, Friday and then swept Pittsburgh, 7-0, two days later.

Against Clemson, Lohan clinched the victory with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over No. 83 Ayan Broomfield in a matchup of the last two ACC Freshman of the Year honorees.

Lohan, one of two Hurricanes to go undefeated on the week in both singles and doubles, also helped Miami clinch the doubles point against Pittsburgh by teaming up with freshman Sara Culbertson for a 6-1 win. She followed that with a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Audrey Ann Blakely in singles competition.

Ranked No. 13 nationally in singles, good for the third-highest mark in the ACC, Lohan dropped a total of just eight games across her two singles matches last week.

Lohan and the Hurricanes will return to action Friday in Blacksburg, Va., when they take on Virginia Tech at 3 p.m.
