Miami Drops Road Match Against NC State, 5-2

RALEIGH, N.C. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team fell on the road, 5-2, against North Carolina State Friday at the JW Isenhour Tennis Center.

In doubles play, NC State’s (13-11, 4-5 ACC) Michael Ogden and Alexis Galarneau bested seniors Max Andrews and Jesse Flores, 6-2.

The Wolfpack clinched the doubles point when Igor and Ivan Saveljic topped sophomore Dane Dunlap and junior Christian Langmo, 6-4.

The final remaining match was left unfinished with juniors Piotr Lomacki and Nile Clark tied with Nick Horton and Georgiy Malyshev, 5-5.

Following the doubles point, NC State quickly capitalized in singles play when No. 109 Galarneau took down Langmo, 6-4, 6-1, and Malyshev defeated Andrews, 6-1, 6-4.

Looking to make a comeback, the Canes turned to court six where Dunlap cruised past Ogden, 6-3, 6-2.

At No. 4, leading 5-2 in the opening set, Flores was unable to close it out as Igor Saveljic earned the tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-3). Saveljic later clinched the match for NC State after he defeated Flores, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2.

Play continued on courts one and five, as No. 46 Lomacki found himself in a battle against No. 80 Horton.

After falling in the opening set, 4-6, the Canes junior battled back to take the second set, 7-6 (7-0), forcing a third set tiebreaker. Horton took the match, 6-4, 6-7 (0-7), 1-0 (10-7).

At No. 5, NC State’s Ivan Saveljic opened the match strong, taking the opening set against Clark, 6-2. The Philadelphia native however battled back to take the second set, 6-2. In a back and forth final set, the junior earned the singles victory, 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5).

The Hurricanes (8-10, 2-7 ACC) will travel 25 miles northwest to wrap up the weekend in Durham, N.C., as Miami takes on No. 46 Duke University Saturday at 3 p.m.
