Miami Drops Road Opener Against No. 28 FSU
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team fell to No. 28 Florida State University Sunday at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center.
Miami (6-6, 0-3 ACC) were unable to slow down the Seminoles, coming up short in doubles play.
Florida State’s (12-4, 2-1 ACC) Terrance and Terrell Whitehurst opened up the match with a victory over junior Christian Langmo and sophomore Dane Dunlap, 6-2.
Looking to improve to 8-0 as a tandem this spring, juniors Nile Clark and Piotr Lomacki came up short, 4-6 against No. 77 Lucas Poullain and Jose Gracia.
Court one ended with seniors Max Andrews and Jesse Flores tied with No. 69 Aziz Dougaz and Guy Iradukunda, 4-4.
In singles play, the Seminoles stayed hot, taking the opening set on all six courts.
At No. 3, Andrews dropped his match against Poullain, while at No. 6, Dunlap fell to Terrell Whitehurst, 3-6, 3-6.
Leading 3-0, FSU clinched the match when No. 95 Iradukunda took down Langmo, 6-4, 6-4.
No. 67 Lomacki later dropped his match against No. 119 Dougaz, 4-6, 4-6, before Genovese fell to Rana Roop-Bhullar, 5-7, 3-6.
Flores forced a third set against Gracia, but the senior came up short, 3-6, 6-4, 3-6, as FSU won the overall match, 7-0.
Up next, the Canes will once again hit the road when they travel to Louisville, Ky., to face No. 31 University of Louisville Sunday, March 26 at 12 p.m.
