Miami Opens the Allstate Sugar Bowl Challenge in First

NEW ORLEANS – The No. 11-ranked University of Miami women’s golf team opened round one competition at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate with a bang on Sunday as it finished the day atop the leaderboard with a Day 1 total of 287.  

The Hurricanes’ team score of 287 marks the ninth time this season Miami has shot under 290 for a single round.

Sophomore Dewi Weber is tied for the tournament lead after she opened the tournament with a score of 68. This is the sixth time this season Weber has shot under 70.

Weber tallied four birdies on holes two, nine, 10 and 13, while not posting a single bogey on the day.

Teammates Filippa Moork, Macarena Aguilera and Delfina Acosta also turned in strong rounds for the Hurricanes as they each posted scores of 73. The three Hurricanes are currently tied for 20th.

Several of the nation’s top collegiate golf teams are competing in this year’s Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate. The 17-team field features seven of the top 25 teams in the nation in the most recent Golfstat.com rankings, including No. 1 ranked Stanford and reigning NCAA champion and No. 65 ranked Washington. 

The tournament field also includes No. 3 Florida, No. 11 Miami (Fla.), No. 19 UCF, No. 20 Oklahoma State, No. 21 Texas and No. 23 Arizona.

The three-day event is being held at the par 72, 6,239-yard English Turn Golf and Country Club.
