Lohan to Compete at USTA/ITA National Indoors
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Junior Sinead Lohan of the University of Miami women’s tennis team is set to play in the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships for the second consecutive year.
Held Thursday to Sunday at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y., the tournament is one of the most elite and selective of the year.
Ranked fifth in the nation, Lohan is seeded seventh in the singles main draw, which features 32 players from 23 colleges. Lohan is joined by five other ACC players and five other top-10 players in the field.
A native of Waterford, Ireland, Lohan earned an automatic berth into the prestigious event by winning the back draw of the illustrious Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships in early October. She went 1-1 at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships last year as a sophomore.
Lohan is 8-1 in singles play this fall, winning each of her last six matches and owning a 5-1 mark against top-50 opponents. In her career, the two-time ITA All-American is 86-15 in singles, with a 43-14 record versus ranked players.
Thursday, in the event’s opening round, Lohan is set to take on No. 39 Viktoriya Lushkova of Oklahoma State at 9 a.m. The winner will face the victor of the match between Columbia’s Rima Asatrian and Pepperdine’s Ashley Lahey, while the loser will move to the back draw.
Lohan’s participation in this week’s tournament will serve as the final action of the fall for the Hurricanes.
