CANES RETURN TO THE SUN BOWL; FACE WASHINGTON STATE
-Miami (8-4, 5-3 ACC) travels to 2015 Hyundai Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas to take on Washington State. Kickoff for the game is set for 2 p.m. (EST) on CBS.
-Miami will meet Washington State for the first time in school history.
-The 2015 game will mark the 82nd anniversary of the Sun Bowl game and the 48th consecutive broadcast on CBS.
-Miami’s trip out West to the Sun Bowl is the 39th bowl game all-time for the Hurricanes.
-Miami will play in the Sun Bowl for the second time since 2010. This is the second all-time appearance in the Sun Bowl for the Hurricanes. The Hurricanes’ first appearance in the Sun Bowl came in 2010 where they fell 33-17 to Notre Dame.
WHAT A WIN WOULD DO…
-Give Miami its first bowl win since the 2006 MPC Computers Bowl in Boise, Idaho.
-Hand Miami its first-ever win against Washington State.
-Snap a five-game bowl losing streak.
-Give the Hurricanes their fifth win in the last six games, marking Miami’s best finish to a regular season since 2002 when the Canes closed the season with a 5-1 mark.
-Hand the Hurricanes their ninth nine-win season since 2000.
Miami’s appearance in the 2015 Sun Bowl will mark the 39th time in school history the Hurricanes have competed in a bowl game. The Hurricanes own a 19-19 overall record in 38 previous bowl games. Miami’s appearance in the Sun Bowl marks the third-consecutive season in which Miami has competed in the postseason.
“We are thrilled for the opportunity to compete against a talented team in Washington State,” said Interim Head Coach Larry Scott. “To compete in the Sun Bowl is a special opportunity for our student-athletes to gain valuable postseason experience as we continue to move our program forward.”
Miami’s matchup with the Cougars in the Sun Bowl will mark the first-ever meeting between the schools.
“The Sun Bowl is one of college football’s longest standing traditions and I am thrilled that the University of Miami will once again be able to be apart of this wonderful tradition,” said UM Athletics Director Blake James. “This is a fantastic opportunity for our student-athletes to face off against a great opponent in Washington State and we look forward to the challenge.”
The Hurricanes accepted the bowl invitation after winning four of its last five games en route to an 8-4 finish. Miami will be searching for its first bowl win since its 21-20 victory over Nevada in the 2006 MPC Computers Bowl in Boise, Idaho.
