@CanesVB Falls at North Carolina in Three
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of Miami volleyball team dropped its match at North Carolina in three sets on Sunday.
The Hurricanes (12-6, 5-3 ACC) feel to the host Tar Heels in the opening set, 25-15, as the Canes got off to a slow start in the match. Miami battled back in the second set, but fell just short with UNC winning 25-21 to take a 2-0 lead into the intermission. North Carolina closed out the match with a 25-16 victory in the third set to snap Miami’s five-match winning streak.
Freshman Kolby Bird led all Hurricanes with nine kills on the afternoon. The newcomer added two digs while coming off the bench for Miami.
Olga Strantzali had eight kills, seven digs, two blocks and an ace. Taylor Scott added six kills four digs and an ace and Anna Haak recorded three kills and a dig.
Middle blockers Alexis Mourning and Sakile Simmons combined for seven kills and four blocks with Mourning recording five kills and three blocks, while Simmons added two kills and a block.
Haley Templeton had 23 assists, five digs and two blocks playing as Miami’s setter, while Kalysta White led the Canes with 12 digs and added six assists. Kelsie Groot had five digs and Sylvia Hernandez added one dig against the Tar Heels.
Following this weekend’s action, Miami returns to Coral Gables for a home match against Boston College at 7 p.m. on Oct. 23. That same weekend, the Hurricanes will host Syracuse on Oct. 25 at 1 p.m. All Miami home matches are played at the James L. Knight Sports Complex on the University of Miami campus and admission is free.
